A dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth with a titanium post, and once it has fused to the bone it carries a crown that behaves like the tooth you lost. Our Kirwan and Bohle Plains clinics carry the same surgical scope, so the whole course of treatment can happen at whichever one is closer to you.
What We Have at Both Clinics
Both clinics have a cone beam CT scanner and an intra-oral scanner. Implants placed at both are Osstem, Neoss, Straumann, Neodent and Nobel. Carrying more than one system matters more than it sounds: the right fixture for a narrow ridge is not always the right one for a molar site.
Every implant starts with a 3D scan rather than a guess. The scan shows where the bone actually is, how much of it there is, and where the nerve and the sinus sit. The placement is planned on that scan before anyone picks up an instrument, which is what guided surgery means in practice.
What We Can Do at Townsville and Bohle Plains
- Single implants for one missing tooth.
- Multiple implants where several teeth are gone.
- Implant-retained dentures, so a denture clips onto implants instead of moving around.
- All-on-4 and full-arch work, covered on our All-on-4 page.
- Bone grafting and sinus lifts where the bone needs building up first.
- Immediate or same-day implants where the case allows it.
- Gum grafting and crown lengthening where the gum needs work alongside.
When There Is Not Much Bone Left
Some people are told they cannot have implants because there is not enough bone left to hold one, and the usual answer is a graft and a long wait. These are the two clinics in our group that also do zygomatic and pterygoid implants. Those anchor into bone further back and higher up, which can be an option where a conventional implant has nowhere to go. We also repair oro-antral communications at both.
Dr Ricky Sandhu comes up from the Gold Coast to do this work, along with All-on-X, sinus lifts and difficult extractions. Dr Sudeep Singh, a registered Specialist Periodontist, also consults at both clinics.
Getting It Done Without the Drive
Most patients in the Townsville area can have the whole course of treatment at one clinic, from the first scan to the final crown. That includes the complex surgical work, which is done at these two clinics rather than referred to Brisbane.
A visiting anaesthetist attends both clinics, so if you would rather be sedated for the surgery, or the case is long enough to warrant it, that can be arranged here rather than somewhere else.
How Treatment Runs, From the First Visit to the Final Tooth
The consultation and scan. The first stage is a consultation and a cone beam CT scan, so the conversation about what is possible starts from your actual bone rather than an estimate. It is where you find out whether implants are likely to suit you, what else might need to happen first, and what the plan would involve.
The plan and the quote. The placement is planned on the scan, and you are given a written quote before anything is booked. If the answer is that grafting or gum treatment should come first, the plan says so and says in what order.
The surgery. Placement is done under local anaesthetic. If you would rather be sedated, or the case is a long one, the visiting anaesthetist can be arranged. Where the case allows it, an implant can be placed and a temporary tooth provided on the same day, and where it does not, we will say so at the consult rather than on the day.
The healing, and the final tooth. The implant needs time to fuse to the bone before it carries a load, which is why a straightforward case runs several months. The crown, or the denture or full arch that the implant supports, goes on at the end of that.
Replacing One Tooth, Several, or a Whole Arch
A single implant replaces one tooth without involving the teeth either side. Where several teeth are missing, multiple implants can replace them. Where most or all of the teeth in a jaw are gone, there are two common routes at both clinics: an implant-retained denture, which clips onto implants so it stays put, or a full arch on four implants as described on our All-on-4 page. If you already wear a denture, our Townsville and Bohle Plains denture page covers what is done with dentures, and the two can be planned together.
Which of those suits you is a decision for the scan and the examination. It is not something we can settle from a description over the phone, and we would rather say that than guess.
When the Gums and Bone Need Work First
Bone grafting and sinus lifts are done at both clinics for people whose jaw has lost volume, and gum disease treatment is available at both for people whose gums need attention before an implant goes in. Gum grafting and crown lengthening are done where the gum needs reshaping or rebuilding alongside the implant.
Because Dr Sudeep Singh consults at both clinics, gum health and implant planning can be looked at together instead of in separate places. Whether an implant suits you depends on your bone, your gums and your general health.
Kirwan or Bohle Plains
The two clinics offer the same implant treatments, so choosing between them is mostly a question of which is closer. What they share, and the few things that differ:
- At both clinics: implant planning, surgery and restoration on site, bone grafting and sinus lifts, zygomatic and pterygoid implants, a cone beam CT scanner, a visiting anaesthetist, on-site parking, and a periodontist who consults at both. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
- Languages: Hindi, Punjabi and Nepali are spoken across our clinics, and Dr Pa Sia, who works at both Kirwan and Bohle Plains, speaks Hmong. Who is rostered varies by day, so ask when you ring. There is more on our languages page.
- Kirwan: on Thuringowa Drive, near The Willows. The intra-oral scanner there is a Trios 3.
- Bohle Plains: inside the Kalynda Chase estate, in Townsville’s western growth corridor, with a kids’ play corner. The cone beam CT scanner there is a Dentsply Sirona Orthophos XG 3D and the intra-oral scanner is a Medit i700.
If You Are Travelling From Further Away
Our Ingham, Innisfail, Bowen and Emerald clinics all place implants on site. If a case there turns out to need zygomatic or pterygoid implants, that work is done at Kirwan or Bohle Plains, and we plan it with you at your local clinic first so you know what the trip involves.
Who We See Around Kirwan and Bohle Plains
Implant treatment runs over several visits and several months, so the clinic that is closer to you matters. Both clinics do the scanning, the planning and the surgery on site, which means you can choose on distance rather than on what each one offers.
Bohle Plains is one of Townsville’s youngest suburbs: the median age is 28, against 38 across Queensland, and 48.5% of local families are couples with children. Defence is the largest employer of Bohle Plains residents, at 18.2%, and we see DVA card holders at both clinics.
Kirwan is one of Townsville’s largest suburbs, with 20,780 residents and a median age of 38, in line with the state. Together the two clinics serve the western side of Townsville.

What It Costs
The fee depends on how many implants you need, whether the bone needs building up first, and what goes on top. We give you a written quote after the consultation and the scan, so you have the figure before anything is booked. Interest-free payment plans are available, and if your health fund covers any of it we claim through HICAPS at the desk. We also see DVA card holders at both clinics. There is more on our payment options page.
Important: Implant treatment is surgery and carries risks. Whether it suits you depends on your bone, your gum health and your general health, and that can only be judged after an examination and a scan. Outcomes and timeframes vary between individuals. Seek advice appropriate to your circumstances from a qualified health practitioner.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Done here. Both clinics have the scanning, the planning and the surgery on site, so the whole thing happens at 2/81 Thuringowa Dr, Kirwan or 2/1 Kalynda Pde, Bohle Plains rather than being sent on to another town.
It depends on the bone and whether anything needs building up first. A straightforward case runs several months from placement to the final tooth, because the implant needs time to fuse before it is loaded. We can sometimes place and provide a temporary on the same day, and we will tell you at the consult which of those applies to you.
Often there is a way forward. Bone grafting and sinus lifts are done at both clinics. Where there is very little bone left, these are also the two clinics in our group that do zygomatic and pterygoid implants, which anchor differently and can suit cases where a conventional implant has nowhere to go.
It depends on how many implants, whether grafting is involved, and what goes on top. You get a written quote after the consultation and the scan, before anything is booked. Interest-free payment plans are available and we claim any health fund rebate through HICAPS.
The surgery itself is done under local anaesthetic and most people are more comfortable than they expected. A visiting anaesthetist attends both clinics, so sedation can be arranged for longer or more involved cases, or if you would simply rather be asleep for it.
Whichever is closer. The two clinics offer the same implant treatments, use the same implant systems, and both have a cone beam CT scanner. Dr Sudeep Singh, a registered Specialist Periodontist, consults at both. The differences are practical ones: the location, the make of the scanners, and the kids’ play corner at Bohle Plains.
Yes to both, and both are done at Kirwan and Bohle Plains. An implant-retained denture clips onto implants so it does not move around, and All-on-4 replaces a full arch on four implants. Which one suits you depends on your bone and your gums, and that is decided on the scan.
Gum disease treatment, gum grafting and crown lengthening are all available at both clinics, and the periodontist who consults at both is the person to ask. Whether an implant suits you, and whether the gums need work first, can only be judged after an examination and a scan.
